September Casual Obs

  • – Leaves lagging by estimated 4-7 days on what would be typical
  • – Lots of acorns dropping. The most acorns seen in many years
  • – Apples are in abundance
  • – The wooly bears caterpillars I’ve seen have not had much black on them
  • – Hurricane Ida to start the month passed as a TD really erased the summer dryness area wide and after a dry period following additional appreciable rainfall put things back in the wet category. Stream flow typical.
  • – High Elevation frost pockets in the Alleghenies with the first recorded frost in the east on the 3rd, and the most days freezing and below in the east. Edging out Mt. Washington that did go into winter mode the last several days of the month.
