The station on the west side of the Sods at 4035′ on the ridge top bottomed out at 51°. Conditions atop Bear Rocks with a consistent light breeze would have been nearly equal as thats part of the airmass in place and not decoupled as is the lower bog. Lower, but less than 100′ vertical and a 20° spread. This gives good reason to believe on a prime winter night, with a good snowpack that conditions could run 30°+ colder in less than a quarter mile distance and less than a 100′ vertical. These high bogs also tend not to fog in heavy and blanket off the radational cooling as does the deeper Canaan Valley. However these sites likely decouple a bit less frequently than the deeper Canaan Valley frost pockets.
