Outlook from January 21, 2024
A cold night on the way and especially cold night for the Valleys. Often the tail end of the cold spells end with such a night as the high comes overhead before pressing east.
Tonight’s ingredients
- clear skies

- Dry Air/Low Dew Points

- Relatively calm conditions. A bit if a fly in the ointment that could potentially prevent a big valley temp drop

Coldest valleys should drop well down below 0.
Temps begin a upward trend Monday.

Calm conditions Monday night will allow valleys to drop off, but no where near as much as tonight .
Tuesday- that cold dry air mass is going to try and moisten up rapidly. Expect overcast conditions, temps rise 35-40 However, evaporational cooling can allow for temps to briefly come back down if enough moisture comes in, in the afternoon that could provide a light period of snow or even a few sprinkles below 2500′.
Tuesday night- Temps steady for most. Eastern valleys near freezing. Those low laying valleys, road surfaces still may be cold enough that areas of freezing drizzle and or black ice can occur. That needs monitored
Mid to late week.

A good snowpack across the region. Milder air As long as the winds are calm to light. Those snow covered valleys, sheltered areas will hold much cooler than the open ridgetops. 45-50 on tops, 35-40 in those valleys.

Lastly is the potential flood threat. Right now that doesn’t look to be too major of a threat.
Cooler air coming in next weekend and we may again get some wintry precip
