Spruce Knob

  • Aside the birch on top, foliage is well past peak. From Gandy, Spruce Knob lake and up. This terrible assumption year after year that is repeatedly posted about foliage starts changing on top and works it’s way down is ridiculous. This past week. Tourism promo stated ” At 4800′ Spruce Knob late September and by mid October Spruce Knob Lake. That’s done without knowing tree type and without any understanding of how much colder nights are down at the 3700′ valley vs the 4800′ top. Foliage all along Gandy is past peak. As you’ll see in more pics further below.

More leaves towards the top? Yes as you transition to this dominant birch zone. As around Spruce Knob lake is dominant maple
Any tourism site pushing peak colors mid October, should experience reality. (And rarely ever will you have peak colors west of Spruce Knob as late as mid October
