Cold And Wind This Morning, To Cold, Snow and Wind tonight.
January 14, 7:03am
■Cold and windy out there this morning.

- Temps ranging from around 0 to 10 over most of the area
- Winds gusting in excess of 50mph over the higher exposed Wv tops , 25-35mph elsewhere
- Windchills are low as -25 over the Wv tops -8 to -15 elsewhere over the high ground
■ A shortwave trough pushing in later today, reinforcing the cold air, ramping up the winds and bringing along with it some fluffy snow that should add up to 1-3″ for most with 3-4″ in localized areas.

■ Putting that in to animation on the HRRR
■ HRRR Snowfall . Modeling will struggle with ratios.

■ A look at temperature off the HRRR showing the reinforcing cold overnight
■ Windchills off the HRRR. Which lower quite significantly again overnight and may approach -30 windchill values over the higher exposed Wv tops
■ This being accompanied by strong gusty winds overnight, generally 30-40mph gust with 50mph over the Wv tops will create blowing and drifting, with whiteout conditions at times. Be prepared traversing areas prone to whiteouts.
■ Looking ahead to Thursday as the next system swings through. This one carries a bit more oomph and has 3-6″/4-7″ type potential with it. Winds will be gusty, but not as gusty as it is this morning or tomorrow morning. That said, blowing and drifting will remain an issue.
■ Once beyond this event, we watch a slightly milder surge with a touch of wet snow and even some liquid in to Saturday in areas that will transition back to wintry weather and more accumulating snows ahead of the major cold blast next week. If the stars align, which are snowpack ✔️, calm, clear, and the extreme cold air mass in place. Could we snag a Wv state record at The Northern Valley station.
