A Chilly Beginning To Spring
March 20, 2025 6:32AM
With the astronomical spring season officially beginning this morning shortly after 5am

● Now we turn our eyes to chillier conditions vs warmer in the short term.
■ The cold front with associated showers sits just to our west this morning

●Rain showers pushing in today, those transition to snow showers activity late day/overnight with light accumulations.
● Timing that out off the 6z HRRR
■ Precip Type- showing the rain showers turning to pm snowshowers. First across the high Wv locations and working down to and below 3000′ near or just after nightfall
■ Temps-A mild morning that will see increasing clouds, precipitation, wind as we progress through the day and that leads to temps on the decline . In to the 20s overnight, with perhaps some mid to upper teens on the Wv tops.
■Windchills-with temps falling in the 20s and winds on the increase. Windchills by Friday morning running 5-15° for much of the Alleghenies with -5 to +5 Wv tops
■ Wind Gust- 30-40mph gust with up to 50Mph gust over the higher exposed Wv tops.
■Snowfall (Euro and GFS) A light event, but enough to cause some slick spots potentially.
Upslope zones (Lean low to mid range)
2000-2500′ Trace to .5″
2500-3500′ .5 to 1.5″
3500’+ 1.5 to 3.0

■ The chillier pattern looks to stick for awhile. That doesn’t mean straight cold, but the door will be open as we end March and start April for cold enough air to bring along a few snowfall “potentials” to the high ground at times. There will be mild days in the mix, just not looking as warm as we have seen recently.
