Winters Fading Touches

Winters Fading Touches

Friday, March 21, 2025 6:14am

Stepping out the door this morning, it doesn’t feel like the first full day of spring. Or look like it in spots with some areas with light snow accumulations and snow covered roads in spots. Temperatures are mainly in the 20s, with upper teens across the higher Wv tops. Windchills +/- 0° across the Wv tops. 10 to 15° elsewhere with those continued gusty winds.

■TEMPS BELOW:

■WINDCHILLS:

■ SKIES breaking today for sun, temps remaining “chilly”, and will feel chilly with the wind with most areas climbing in to the lower and middle 40s. The higher Wv tops may hold upper 30s.

●6z HRRR Temps

■Slightly milder push today, and a slightly colder push Saturday and this is evident off the 850mbtemps(near 5000′).

■PRECIP:

With the lingering snow showers departing this morning and skies breaking we turn toa chance of rain and snow showers Saturday. The main reason of showing the 850mb graphics above. When you see that 0°C mark come over the high ground, that’s essentially going to be your high elevation surface temp when it’s precipitating. So, while most areas below 3500′ mainly see just showers with the exception of, if there’s a brief heavier burst you can see wet flakes, graupel make it to 2500-3000′ . Otherwise as you increase in elevation, you increase the chance of flakes and very little consequence as any accumulation appears unlikely.

Late Sunday there is model undercertainty with timing of our next weather maker and if some of the northern zones and high ground can mix in some wet snow as that pushes in. More on that later.
