Bittinger 2nw Valley

Bittinger 2NW valley (Garrett County) siting 39.618- 79.251…2580′ MMTS/hobo sensor, natural aspiration. Level to slight Sw slope. Area sheltered with mininal air circulation at times. Slope + Poor air movement can affect temperature on a high solar day with calm conditions. Trimmed grass surface. Full sun becoming filtered mid afternoon which can lean low on maxes at times but very reflection of the location type. All temps to the unrounded tenth. Location is in a valley next to the old Bittinger 2nw COOP.

Experimental Site for night temps only. Shelter has max temps during high solar issues .

The Glades

The Glades (Garrett County Md) 39.566 – 79.278…2680′ Experimental night time accu rite readings on bog. Surface spaghnum, etc. Cold air drainage location.

Top of Wisp

Station location is rooftop. Generally a poor station location. Daytime maxes seem a bit less impacted due to extremely good airflow with its location on top and rooftop. This site will impact temps during calm conditions or light winds. Nighttime temps under calm conditions impacted due to rooftop and distance above the surface. Rainfall impacted on rooftop due to gauge size + wind. Wind readings exaggerated on rooftops.

Canaan Heights (Tucker County Wv)39.048-79.432..3717′ Davis Vantage Pro 2 station, fan aspirated. Slight N slope. Open with plenty of air movement. Mowed grass surface. Full day sun..** beginning spring 2019, the fan quit functioning, leading to exaggerated max temps on high solar days. Data not good.

In 2022 a live online Dyacon station became available sited in the same location. Summer of 2023 the MMTS obs moved 700 yards North from current site.

Canaan Valley Floor (Tucker County Wv)39.036 -79.431 3224′ HOBO sensor in Cotton Region Shelter(CRS) level. Mostly open with good air movement. Bog like surface. Spaghnum moss, moss, etc. Cold air drainage location. Full day sun.

July 10th switch to fan aspirated apogee unit.

Canaan Valley Floor North- (Tucker County Wv) 39.1277 -79.3672. Northern low open area of the valley. Apogee daytime fan aspirated station. Has become the primary posted station vs the other frost pocket site due to it running colder on most occasions.

At times will run national min temp abs more frequently the coldest eastern U.S Mina

Cabin Mt-Western Sods

North along the same ridgeline as Bald Knob along Cabin Mt. This station is at 4035′, very open with no wind breaks. Often recording the strongest gust. It’s also 2 miles east of the Northern Valley station and used to show the contrast of a high station vs Valley station

Silver Creek at Snowshoe (Pocahontas County Wv) 38.440 – 79.990 4462′ Davis Vantage Pro2 station. Fan aspirated. Unknown slope and surface. Note: Station seems best among other Snowshoe stations with solar radiation.

Cresaptown (Allegany County Md) 39.591 – 78.835 781′

Accu-Rite station. Unknown slope and surface. Pic appears to be a wooded shaded site. Appears to run coolest of low elevation site. May need to add a second site for better comparison.
