Location Type- partially open “Glade” along Glade Run that begins several hundred feet higher on Negro Mt. The area has filled in with some more trees over the last few decades after the Glade in recent history was mostly open from beaver dam impacts.

As trees fill in those impacts can lead to a slower and a bit more limited night time drop, vs remaining wide open void of trees. It can also aid in slightly cooler maxes as they continue to grow.

Scattered Red Spruce have also been planted randomly in the location. Native to the site, with a few larger mature ones nearby. The dominant evergreen is hemlock with some white pine. The white pine were planted many years ago by my grandfather. The shadows through the shortened days grow rather long, limiting solar impact and making the Valley area along Glade Run a great snow holding location vs nearby areas. Nestled in a high valley at 2600′, with snow cover with plenty of evergreen goes a long way to refrigerate the landscape.

Data has been collected from a variety of locations over the recent years along Glade Run to see the various impacts of site to site. With snow cover playing a role when it occurs.

The primary data location sits 400′ south of Glade Runs crossing of Foxtown Rd. Secondary sites have been used near this area and other areas further downstream that are a bit more protected.

The primary data is recorded in a NWS MMTS-Shelter using a HOBO MX2304 data logger. Max/Min range of +/- .2. Rain Gauge used in recent years is a 4″ cocorahs style gauge.
