Classic east influence.  Big Savage thick fog,50s. Max low 50s there I believe. Will try to find out. As you go west, blue sky at Friendsville. Sun at Cranesville. In Garrett County, Negro Mt is typically that fog cutoff and was so once again. West of that, much nicer than east. In Canaan. Cabin Mt and east, held fog longer than Cabin and west. Some impressive pics on social media of that fog bank. Further south that easterly influence as typical affects Snowshoe area much more than Canaan that seems to get that SW punch in all the time. So Friday was a tale of 2 worlds in short distances.

* Savage Mt maxed out at 54.3° after dark. Held 49-53° all day.

Valley Floor minimum occured 11:59pm under likely some clear skies there.

** away at Chincoteague Va. Drizzle, strong NE winds, coastal flood advisories with some coastal high tide flooding.
East flow as well back in the Mts. Posted some on Facebook page. Will fill in missing data and get up to speed when returning home. Today the 13th(data in this post is for the 12th) was another(3rd in row) of a east flow affect that affects areas that typically are worse with east flows(be it ice, fog, coolness) more so than areas west. In Garrett Big Savage to Friendsville is a large difference.

Cloudy early, scattered shower north. Then mix of clouds and sun.

Snippets of todays theme. The effect of wind direction, elevation. Across Garrett County Md sky conditions from Big Savage to Friendsville were exact opposites(well at Big Savage you could not see the sky) The influence there was easterly, moist, cooler….while west, and south the southwesterly breeze was in affect. Sky conditions were partly cloudy after the morning rains for a period before more rain pushed through. Then a return to the setup. Sun, fog….further south, the Wv highground ran milder than the lowlands east.

Rainfall amounts the past several days

This rain helped end a stretch of very dry weather. A dry stretch overall since Sept 5. That allowed area waterways to go below normal.  This recent rain bounced waterways back to normal and just above for the date. Which this time of year, is a low water time typically anyhow.

Also to note- this assisted nicely in helping the North Fork Mt wildfire.
